  1. I actually thought about using marabou, but I have this huge box of suede and I know that there are other patterns with 'bou so I went for something a little different. It is pretty much as it will be in the swap, though I may adjust the body bulk a little.
  2. I know this is not a finesse pattern, but I wanted something quick, easy and representative to tie. I have used suede in stonefly patterns before so I thought I would use it here. I am going to post more step by step pictures in a few days. I'm also going to try a few substitutes for the claws, but for now it is as it is.
  3. Yep I love frogs! Nice job!
  4. Nice fly!! And well.......Nice fly!!!
  5. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Inconnu: Woolly Cray
  6. Got flies from Jereme! I think this is a first for me and I have seen alot of improvisation. I showed them to a friend of mine at work last night and he wanted to go fishing with them, good thing all is still frozen here or we might have been fired.
  7. I love dragonfly patterns for trout. That is a good one from what I see......what about tying the biots in at the other end? Not a criticism, just a thought. Still waiting on an update on the pond.....we still have a foot or two of ice here....I am living vicariously through you guys!!
  8. Mine has survived 2 trips in the washing machine and once in the lake.....whew!
  9. Thanks Jereme. Hey do you have smallmouth in Oregon? I used to come to Portland a couple of times a year to the Shriners Hospital, but never got to fish there.
  10. Jereme if you don't mind me sending $$ for postage I'm in.....I tried to resist but I am weak.. I don't fish smallies but I have a crayfish/woollybugger pattern I came up with that I have been wanting to take from sketches to an actual hook. What colour do you guys like best?? I was thinking brown with a copper rib?
  11. Got your flies today Chris, they are looking good....errr a little less endowed, but still pretty good.

This whole situation sounds too cool! I hope you get to fish it soon, the suspense is killing me!!
  13. Sent them airmail today. Thanks Chris, I hope we didn't feel to poorly in the morning.
  14. http://www.nwmangum.com/spoonfly/index.html Here's a step by step for a pattern.
  15. Gee thanks you know??! Here I am where the water is hard and a ways to go until it isn't and you post this picture that causes me to reach for the bottle one more time to drown my sorrows.....sigh, you are one lucky guy.
  16. Anyone who has access to a dollarama or perhaps other dollar stores can find bags of pre-cut strips in mixed colours, 1/4" wide. You get alot for a buck.
  17. Hans is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to hooks as well, makes history etc. very willing to impart it to those who ask.
  18. I updated the Golden Stone pattern for those who were wanting it.
  19. I had told some people who were kind enough to ask, that I would put in a step by step of this pattern. You can get to it by clicking on My flies at the bottom of my post. Thanks for asking folks, I hope it is useable. I left out two pictures which I forgot to take, but they are explained well enough where needed I think.
  20. Surgically enhanced.....
  21. Was using an Odyssey by Griffin, but just bought a Vosseler. So far I like the new one, but the old Odyssey had a couple of features I like as well.
  22. Mine came today! They are great flies and very useable for me here as well. Thanks everyone for doing such a great job of tying these flies and a special thanks to breambuster for holding it!
  23. I've seen them but never used them. I like that fly though.
  24. Hey I received mine today! Actually was pretty good time for the mail, they must have got a new batch of postal sloths. They are great flies folks, I have a couple of places in mind to try them out this year. I'll let you know how I make out. Big Todd, it was nice to see a Montana Nymph again, I caught my first Arctic Grayling on one in 1982. It was 17" and just beautiful. I have to tell you about this 'cause it was sort of wierd. I went down to a pool where one small river entered another slightly larger one. From a distance I could see all these wierd "rises" right tight along the rocky beach. Now you may not believe this and I still have a hard time with it, but there were ants on the rocks and the grayling were splashing water up onto them and then eating the ants that fell in. I am pretty sure of this because I was watching them do it from about 20 feet away, laying in a shallow depression. I flipped my nymph out from that position and it landed like 6 inches from shore and the grayling grabbed it. Strangest hook-up I have had I think.
