  6. I saw that Stealth Bomber in action both at the end of my fly rod and on Jack Dennis fly rod. The fly was used in the filming of the show Callaway Brim and it works great. I fihsed later at Callaway and it works great. I also had the pleasure of watching Kent Emmonds tie the fly at the Southeastern Council Federation of Fly Fishers conclave. He was filmed there tieing the fly. Kent will be at the 2005 FFF conclave in Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, GA June 2 - 4. The contact for the show is me. I regularly use the fly for smalliea and what ever will eat it. Nice and durable and simple. Another foam fly is the Gartenside Gurgler. Also a friend and tier, Anthony Hipps has an article forthcomming in Fly Fisherman using those foam sheets from walmart for a really neat popper he makes. Anthony will also be at the Callaway Gardens Show. Irish
  7. will, a great job. so many flies and not enough time. My wife and i enjoyred looking and voting. Irish
  8. I designed and helped build, bend manually, and weld together a frame for my 12 ft tubes. The frame is a whitewater play frame. It made out of emt tubing. I had 90 ft into the frame, allowing for opps pieces cost retail $130 Time involved Drawing the frame: 8 hours by hand I really need to learn autocadd building 10 hours but lots of discussion on how to bend and where to weld. Probably can cut down on the time for the next one. Did I save money? Probably not. Did I get the frame I wanted? You betcha. Do I have some ideas for modification of this frame? Of course. O am in agreement that when it comes to toons you get what you pay for. A good way to find what you want is to go to a Fly fishing Show and look at what your cash will buy. Then try to find someone who has one and get a test drive. Then spend your money. I think the key is spend the money on the tubes. A frame can be built. Pretty tough to beat the price of Outcast though if you want a boat for MI or "slow" Water. Irish

    Force Fins

buy them if you can afford it. You will not believe the difference. I have used them and am saving my coins to get my own. Irish
  14. purchase 1 (one) 3/4 inch dowel from the local hardware store cut a piece about 2 inches long and drill a hole approximately 1/8 inch in diameter through the dowel and use a wood rasp to flatten slightly one side to keep it from rolling off the tying table. The remainder of the wood dowel with last a very looooong time. A great price for the tool. A great hair packer. The rough surface of the wood really bites the hair when packing. Irish
  15. Take the fella to the local Federation of Fly Fishers Club and enroll him in their fly tieing class. Or better yet bring him to Livingston, MT the week of August 10, 2005 and get him in the kid's fly fishing/fly tying class at then FFF Show and step back as he really flies. Buy him some good sissors and a new bobbin for Christmas. Nothing like tying with new sharp sissors and a good bobbin. Dorothy Schram is a great one to learn from. Irish
  16. Happy birthday Troutbum, the present will be in the mail Monday. I think you will like it. Irish Dave

  21. It is about 2 hours or so from Charlotte to some of the finest smallie fishing in the South. The New River in NC/VA is very good as is the James In VA. Also the Western pat of the state has some fine smallies. It is 2 hrs from my house to the Charlotte airport and 15 minutes to smallie fishing. You should not have a problem replacing your smallie stream with a new one. Watch out for Peddler he is sneaky Give me a shout when you get moved and I will help wth the smallies not those coldwater fishes that others think are supreme. I think it is their mis-guided thinking. Smallies rule Irish the smallie man
  22. I justify after married purchases by tieing all of my wife's flies and mentioning that it now takes twice as much material to keep the inventory of flies up. I am doing good Troutbum, look for fly in the mail for your opinion and comment I will send it the latter part of next week. I think you will be impressed Irish
  23. I had to do this when I got married. The homeowner ins didn't cover it without a rider. The Ins agent said to inventory it up and assume replacement costs at today dollars not what I paid for it. Thehooks come in at $6,000. I have 1 each metz no1's all colors. Then there are the premo strips. The estimate is enough to buy a new car just like waht Troutbum drives. The black one sure is nice. Or perhaps a drifter. When the fly fishing equipment is added in, the ins agent wrote a special rider to ensure that All would be covered in the event of a loss. Come on guys lets be honest all our estimates are light by at least 50 %. A box of Mustand dry fly hooks $10, and need 10 boxes to cover 8 - 26. Then there is thread Very broke Irish whose wife was there when the ins was figured.
