  1. I assumed it was referring to the many conflicts, big and small, between the Native Americans and Colonists in the late 16 and early 1700's around here in western MA. Many innocents killed on both sides.
  2. We had a quick thunderstorm roll through yesterday in the late afternoon, I swear the leaves on some of trees popped out before the sun set, it was like magic.
  3. I tried this yesterday - It works!

    Grass carp

    Nice fish. Nice dog
  5. The idea of a trout park is such an odd thing to me, I'd like to visit one.
  6. I tie off one of three ways: with a tool, by hand, and half hitch using the recessed end if my bodkin. Probably use the tool 80% of the time
  7. Driving along some rural roads a few weeks ago, I came across this monument at an old graveyard. Odd choice of words, I thought
  8. Nice, seems like Vanessa was quite the catch.
  9. Clouser style - threw this together the other night, caught me a dozen crappie yesterday evening at sunset. Hook: #8, 1xl Thread: Olive Eyes: Sliver bead-chain Body: Artiste Metallic Pearl Floss, Gold Flash: Lime pearl, 2 strands/side Belly: Bucktail, mix of white and olive Wing: Gray squirrel tail, dyed orange
  10. Count me in - probably a baitfish pattern/streamer fly.
  11. All year long season here in Mass. Seems some people around here view the rolling of the stocking trucks as sort of unofficial opening day, I think. I kinda miss the build-up in excitement that opening day used to hold for me when I was a kid, but I'd rather have it this way.
  12. Holy crap - I completely forgot I was in this swap, and the flies have been done for about 2 weeks. I will get them in to the PO tomorrow. Sorry to hold things up. This getting old crap is getting old, better than the alternative I guess.
  13. 👍 Never mind my question on your other post.
  14. Nice Rick, what'd you catch them on?
  15. 👍 My daughter starts school at West Virginia University this fall. Hopefully I'll be able to make my way down there sometime in the next 4 years with a bit of free time for fishing. Said the same thing when my son went to school in upstate New York, but that never panned out. I assume you fish this fly. There seems to be so many variations on the pattern out there. I want to tie up a few more like this, but prepping the feathers is a bit time-consuming: coloring, splitting, soaking, removing the pith, etc.
  16. Nice looking caddis, this and the last. Reminds me very much of Borger's poly caddis. You've achieved the nice profile his has but with a natural material and without bending the hook, and the CDC can only help. Hope you're able to get them wet.
  17. What size hook does the pattern call for? Then work backwards from the info flytire gave. I always use the rule of thumb posted above. If I need or want something thinner, I use the round handle of my bodkin to flatten the wire. Fly tying was never meant to be an exact science, guy. (sorry, couldn't help myself)
  18. Mostly I fish flowing water, being lucky to have lots around from which to choose. But I will use a sit-in kayak when I have the itch to get to the other end of my lake or roam the shoreline/weedy patches, and I can't bum the skiff from by buddy. It really is a PITA fly fishing from it due to the low position , and I certainly ain't gonna get any awards for my casting form when I do it. I would definitely give what @utyer and others describe a shot, getting elevated, but kayak fish so infrequently, buying a different kayak just isn't worth it to me. I like using a paddle board, but my daughter put the kibosh on that, fearing a hole from my hooks. As far as car topping vs trailering, plenty of loader assists out there, and the simpler ones look pretty easy to DIY. Looking forward to seeing your final decision.
