Hi Sandan,

I really like Atherton patterns too!  I bought a re-print of the book quite a while back. The problem is that the re-print doesn't have the detailed color for the fly illustrations that the first edition has. Maybe on Kindal it's different. Here is an extremely good copy that a very nice person mailed to me that is as close as possible to the way that it appears in his first edition. I would have PM'd this, but it only has a URL link to the web, and not a picture attachment provision.

Regards,

                    Mark

Banded-Squirrel-Bucktail-1080.jpg

Banded Squirrel Bucktail

Hook - Down-eyed 6-10 long shank

Thread - Black

Tail - Mixed red and white hackle fibers

Body - Mauve/wine wool

Rib - Fine oval silver tinsel

Hackle - Red over white hackle fibers

Wing - Grey squirrel hair

A simple bucktail pattern devised by Taff Price and first published in his book Lures for Game, Coarse, and Sea Fishing in the early 1970s. This fairly somber fly, with just a touch of color in its make-up, proved highly successful for brown trout, although rainbows are not averse to taking it, either.

Mark,

The patterns and Mr. Atherton are pretty interesting in their own rights. The kindle edition is black and white. I'm digging those pictures.  I like how the bodies are tied or at least shown.  He was a big believer in those variants and spiders. Fly types that don't, at least in my opinion, get much thought or use nowadays. I'm going to add a few of them to my arsenal. I'm also going yo see if I can get my bodies closer to what's in the picture as well as work on my proportions.  Thanks for this.

Michael
