Some Royals

Excellent job on those.  I love the Royal family of flies.  My brother refuses to tie one on because he doesn't think the fish recognize it as food.  He's always dumbfounded when I catch fish with them.  (so am I for that matter)

What do these mean, sandflyx ?

Not that he can't answer for himself, but if I had to guess, and I do, that is a screenshot of the program he uses to keep track of patterns/recipes.

I stopped into a tackle shop while I was out in Nappa Valley last year.  The staff told me they we're closing down their fly fishing section and that there wasn't much left.  After some digging I found a black hare's mask  discounted for $1.50.  I've been catching trout on flies from it ever since-

BLACK HARE’S EAR

HOOK: #14 2XL

THREAD: BLACK #70

TAIL:  HARE’S MASK GUARD HAIRS- DYED BLACK

ABDOMEN:  HARE’S MASK FINE UNDER COAT – DYED BLACK

THORAX: MIX OF HARE’S MASK FINE UNDER COAT AND GUARD HAIRS -DYED BLACK

LEGS: PHEASANT TAIL FIBERS – DYED ORANGE

HEAD: BLACK BEAD

Agreed- I tie and fish all of them, they just work.   I read somewhere that when asked what  the Royal Wulff imitated Lee Wulff said "Strawberry shortcake". 😉
