Metz Rooster Soft Hackle Pheasant Rump Feather tied in by tip I like #2 and #3 better than the one tied with partridge. I really like them all but the partridge one is definitely middle of the road for me. The partridge wins the beauty pageant but I view #2 and 3 as the fish catchers. I think it’s a great example of positive substitution. Thanks for tying them up for comparison.

Have a good day and tightlines John, this was just to show that one can achieve the same or a similar fly profile with a variety of materials tied in using different methods (tying in a feather by the tip and wrapping, wrapping rooster hackle or using a dubbing loop. It was not meant to be a comment on any of the flys tied on this site. I’ve been tying for some time now, and am always learning new things from these forums, videos and experimentation. I only started using dubbing loop method for soft hackle recently, and have found a new use for some of the longer hen saddle feathers and pheasant skins that I have. All the Best.
