AUGUST flies from the VICE

Recommended Posts

Here's my newest YouTube tutorial, Josh's White Lightning, a pattern created by Josh Williams. The story behind the fly is incredible; Josh is a veteran with only one arm. He was fishing the fly when an exec from Orvis told him that he should submit it for their catalog; Josh did and the fly has taken off! Enjoy the tutorial...

The small stream I fish has been requiring littleish stuff... thus I've been doing some very small (in my universe) hackled flies... The top two are parachute Mr Rapidian variations (more of a ginger body and only 1 hackle color (griz) on the little one (22). The big one is an 18 and more ginger, but uses the normal Mr Rapidian griz/rusty hackles. The other is a scud I tie that is just a varaiation of most everyone elses scuds tied with spotted thin skin on the back, gold rib, zlon for the antenae and tail (works awesome because it can run under the whole body and smooth out the weighted tape/wire used). This one is grey opossom, but olive and tan work well too.

I find my parachutes often have a bit of hackle that points up the post. I'm thinking I need to strip a little more of the hackle so the stem is solidly going round the post before the barbules start to splay to eliminate that. Am I correct, or is there anohter little trick I'm missing here?

Yep like the fish skulls and love the shading of that mouse Rolsen. Almost makes me want to remove the bait from the trap in the shed.

A fly that will sit low in the water and give a good profile, and: it will float forever!

Very nice emerger eide. The foam is a nice touch.

Here is one of my favorites. A size #20 two-bit hooker, tied with 2 1.5mm tungsten beads.
