December Flies From the Vise

I found it! This fly the Whirling Blue Dun is from Fur, Feathers and Steel by Rube Cross.

Hook. Allcocks Model Perfect 04991 size 12. 

Silk. Pearsalls Gossamer gray.

Wing. Mallard primaries.

Tail. Brown.

Body. Gray.

Hackle.Brown.

Thanks, and thank you for the correction.  I only have a digital version of Trout.  When I searched for 'Golden Quail', the only return I get is  the plate listing and Bergman's reference to it on page 197, so I assumed the recipe wasn't listed, careless of me not to go through the descriptions in the back. Original post edited for accuracy.

Switched out a few parts from the original Nemesis Nymph.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 chartreuse
tail - marabou olive
rib - medium tinsel opal
abdomen - dubbing olive 
wingcase - pheasant tail 
thorax - FTD Starburst olive
hackle - pheasant rump dyed olive

As you know these days it’s tough to find even good dry fly tail hackle let alone a sz 8 glassy stiff dun feather.

I meant me. As I search through my hackle to see if I have anything suitable

Swimming Scud

Hook/Thread: Size 16 Scud hook/black polyester monofilament

Beard/Tail: Bob White Quail - any small light color soft hackle would work

Dubbing/Legs: Tan uv ice,  dubbed loosely, teased out and trimmed to length.

Shellback: Rubber scud back, colored with green and then black sharpie, ribbed with the black poly thread and coated in UV resin.

Hook.        ....... Partridge SUD sz 14

Head        ........ wound peacock herl

Thread.     ....... Pearsall’s gossamer silk orange

Body          ....... Pearsall’s orange

Hackle       ......  Rump feather from a Reeves hen pheasant sub for brown owl
