all my rods I ever bought or made pre 2000 were 2 piece. Now all except the bamboo are 4 piece. I just find them more convienient in terms especially of packability. I can't see a difference in fishability

Chugbug Still a very nice emerger!

Great Video! Maligne Lake is my home go to lake about 4 hours from where I live. Although chronamid fishing is popular, most will troll while constantly ripping a streamer fly. Some pics from last season.

I can't comment on that Piker as I've never fished them in rivers. We do however catch them when they are staging in salt just prior to going in the rivers. Good baked in an oven or smoked.

Seen him 3 times - he was a great one

Any float-tubers out there?
Meeshka replied to Hatchet Jack's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
For stillwaters I can drive to I use this 8' homemade aluminum punt. Built it 50 years ago with my dad. Comes with 2 anchors, portable fish finder, electric or 2 HP Honda outboard, and rod holder. I usually row though. If hiking into a lake I use an osprey float tube. -
WOW! Does better than most of my investments. Paid only $1200.00 CDN for mine some 10 years back.

Tube size for billfish Nd saltwater flies?
Meeshka replied to despatiesim's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
You may want to research the "Trimble Shark Fly". Never tied some but a buddy gave me some a few years back. They don't look difficult and I think they may be what you are looking for. -
Although I rarely fish for pike any more what I like to use is a 12 inch nylon coated 20# wire leader hooked to my fly. I don't know anything about bass but pike a certainly not leader shy, and your casts rarely have to be that perfect. Then you could also use what Dave G suggested - a short section of 12# running line from your flyline. I generally would use an 8wt rod.

Eye protection whe using uv cure resin lamps?
Meeshka replied to despatiesim's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
The protection I use for patients when I'm using dental curing lights: On E-bay - Protection goggle for dental curing Lamp. They are pretty cheap if you are really concerned or working a lot with those lights. Doug -
Dumbell eyes are pretty small Zip. Don't think you woud get a very uniform final result, and the clean up? Just my opinion

Jim, I have boxes of "Do It" lead molds from way back when - every thing from 5# cannon balls to 1/8 oz jigs. Never came accross dumbell eye molds, or I probably would have them. My question is that unless you want to get into commercial production why would you want to spend the expence. Way back when the average cost on a jig mold was $30, and then you needed a uint to melt the lead and pour it into the mold. Think it buys a lifetime supply of all sorts of dumbell eyes in different weights. At one time "Do It" would custom make molds - or they had blanks for you to make them. I don't know if this is still available - this is some 30 - 40 years ago. But if you contact them they may be able to point you in the right direction. Doug

David I'm working on that project as we speak. I use 53mm watchmaker's cases (light aluminum with a plastic front). They are about .50 apeice. Now I am making a drawer that they can be stacked in. I can post pictures when its done in about 2 - 3 weeks. I did not like the clear box with removable dividers as hooks always seemed to get under the dividers and mixed up

Nice one flytire! I actually thought it may have been named after a local variant of the tellico. I believe the fly originated in the early 1920's.

Spent some time in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada late May and early June with hopes of fishing Maligne Lake. No luck this time - still 2 -3 inches of ice. Will try again ina couple of weeks. Lots of wildlife though and snapped a nice photo of this guy.

Picked fresh spinach out of my garden this am. So spinach salad with strawberries, red onion, toasted slivered almonds, and balsamic vinager. PS, no offence but I don't think Mike is a fan of the Food Network

GOOGLE FLEXO Forward SBS for a version. Very similar to the way I tied mine except I did not use an underbody, and just used rubber legs forthe appendages. Looks like he used 3/16 fly flex which is what I have and used. Would consider 1/8 which is what I believe was used in your illistration, Fishypieter. Looks finer and may be easier to construct the body. Doug

Had this custom 8 foot 13wt built for me to handle big fish. Note the extra fore handle - love it!
