My top-producing fly, along with his CDC Carrot Fly (which is best in the evening when hatch activity picks up).

However, I do the version that's in his book, Tactical Fly Fishing, which has pink ice dub collar and red wire as the rib (and I think red thread on the front(?) - I'm at work, writing about fly-tying).  And I use Baetis colored CDC.  I have no idea if these things matter, but for me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  Will try to leave a photo when I get home.

Nice tie, Terp. I never saw the original one. I'm going to tie a few of these up. It looks a lot buggier. Thanks

Found some ideas here and made a few changes. First try at dyeing Orkney Peach; don’t think I hit the right mix this time so we’ll call it Neon Orange.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Uni 8/0 fire orange
tail - hackle black
rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing dyed neon orange (70% Rit Golden Yellow, 30%  Rit Sunshine Orange/1 cup water)
body hackle - orange
1st shoulder - partridge dyed sunburst (1Tbs Rit Golden Yellow/1 cup water)
2nd shoulder - chukar dyed hot orange (1 Tbs Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Scarlet/ 1 cup water)

Regards,
Scott

Norm,

I really like the Optic series. Do you get a chance to use them for steelhead?

Scott,

You have an ongoing terrific series of flies. Whenever you post I try to imagine them in 1/0 for bass or 5/0 for toothy critters.

Tom

Norm, the optics are excellent, great job on all of them. The eyes are really good. What's the hook size?

Seatrout Wet II

Another one I found on the Seatrout site. Think I’m off on the proportions - either the tail is too short, the shoulder is too long, or both.  Not enough difference in the colors I used here, either; a red 1st shoulder would provide some contrast.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Uni 8/0 black
tag - UniStretch chartreuse/resin
tail - golden pheasant crest
rib - small wire chartreuse
body - dubbing dyed golden olive (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/2 Tsp Rit Camel/1 cup water)
body hackle - furnace
1st shoulder - partridge dyed golden olive
2nd shoulder - pheasant body feather

Regards,
Scott

I'm tying a bunch of Clousers for my saltwater club's table at the NJ Fly Fishing show in January.  Like many tables we run a raffle, in our case, to support the CFR retreat in our area.  With each ticket bought you get to pick a fly.  I've a bunch of the long shank Varivas hooks that I wanted to use up, plus some dumbbell eyes of various types.  This is the past week's result.

Hook - Varivas 2610ST-V, Size 4 to 2/0

Thread - Clear Polyester

Weight - dumbbell eyes, various sizes and colors

Wing - bucktail, various colors over white
