  1. madkasel "mad" for Madison (the town I live in) "kasel" for Kasel (my last name) Kinda cool, I think.
  2. There's tons. Hundreds of flies, I would guess. The one thing to look for on a skin is that it isn't cut off too far from the head... the tiny feathers for small hook sizes are up by (and on) the head and you'll want them. If it still has the skin from the back of the head, so much the better.
  3. I knot my legs by assuming that fish don't care if the leg is knotted. (At least I hope they don't!!) They do look nice and it would be cool to learn how to do, though.
  4. I have my 40+ complete, as well, and plan to get to the post office in the next day or two. Mostly beadhead hares ears, plus some bitty black caddis nymphs that have proven to be killer. A couple foam beetles, too, that should catch fish on just about any piece of inland water.
  5. I think you fail to consider how easily impressed I am!
  6. I definitely think of the number when choosing the pattern. I had all manner of patterns to consider for the recent gill sinker swap, but immediately dismissed any overly time consuming flies. I would definitely like to see the swaps settle back down to 12 or so. I'd rather be in two 12 person swaps than one 20 person one. All that said, it IS the swapmeister's decision and the meister should state a number up front and stick to it.
  7. So I was looking through my wife's craft boxes to gather up cr*p for a cub scout project tomorrow night, and stumbled upon a roll of this stuff. MWAWW - HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!! It's mine, now!! All mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Interesting thread!! For trout I'd say... Beaded black caddis emerger (sizes 16 and 18) Scud (always size 12 in orange and cream) Copper John (size 14 and 16 - various colors) Adams (size 14 - 20) CDC & Elk in various colors (sizes 14 and 16) * This list subject to change on a moment's notice!!
  9. Talked it over with my 10 year old son... he's going to help with this one, especially since we're going to do Jimmy's Twisters for our pattern. It's his design, and the bluegill love it!! All the flies from the swap will go in his boxes.
  10. Too big? No way!! Awesome, awesome photography. My kid things it's super-cool too, especially how you make it look like they're in water. He now insists that I add a smiley.
  11. Awesome!! I still remember my first fish on a fly... a little brim, same as yours. I'll never forget that little fish.
  12. That's horrible news, though I'm glad that you and your family are safe. I used those feathers you so generously sent me, and they (as you intended) gave me a good feel for the different kinds... and that led to what I considered to be a no-brainer decision when I had the chance recently to buy some Whiting capes at a good price. You better believe I jumped on it... 5 fine capes in the key colors. If there's anything you need, just say the word. My prayers are with you, John.
  13. I dunno... if it sits down in the film, that's usually a good thing. I bet this baby'll catch fish!
  14. I said bass. I prefer to pop gills off the top, and to fish for trout off the surface or by nymphing with itty bitties. But bass... a bugger is great for 'em!

    Drying Wheel

I use a rotisserie motor and it's great.
  16. Mine arrived today and me and the boys had a GREAT time going through it. Very well done, clever ties by all. Can't wait to get some of these on the water!!
  17. Sounds like cool stuff... I can totally picture adding a layer of the clear onto something like a copper john. Will it catch more fish? I dunno. Will it be fun to do and give me more confidence in the pattern? It very well might!
  18. You may have mailed them off already... but if not, keep any extras that I sent.

    'gill rods

I use my 7'6" (I think?) 3 wt. for gills. Love it! I've pulled in some pretty good sized bass with it, too.
  20. Wow. Killer looking nymph. And congrats on sneaking that one by!
  21. just make your way a little further to the north and I'd be willing to take ya, not that I have em figured out, but it sure is fun trying. I just might take you up on that! They look awesome to fish for, but I don't have any experience on 'em at all... where to go in Wisconsin, patterns for time of year, etc.
  22. Dangit. Previous commitment this Saturday.
