  1. Nice tie. I don't usually see them with that tail but I'm not much of a salty guy. I like it. I'll take the merkin crab. I've got my annual trip to the Brewster flats coming up next month, a crab pattern might be useful. It may take me a few days, so if anybody wants to take it on before, please feel free.
  2. Might need an extended stem or other raised platform to raise the vise high enough. Jack Gartside somehow attached a vise to the steering wheel of his cab so he could tie when he didn't have a fare. Will be interesting to see what you come up with.
  3. Nice, DF. I enjoy that type of fishing, but it can be challenging. The fish are easily spooked and scatter at the first sign of anything out of the ordinary.
  4. Nice. Good of you to do the classes for the kids. I may have one or two inexpensive clamp style vises collecting dust in a bin somewhere. I'd be happy to send them to you if you have a use for them. Send me a PM if you do.
  5. That looks great. How'd the kids do?
  6. Nice, I haven't tied one in a while, been using a different pattern for a crayfish, does well in the lake. Gonna tie a few of these, they seem to do better in the streams. I stopped tying those overdressed crayfish patterns, the simple ones do just as well, for me anyway.
  7. Looks good Steve. Will look even better when everything fills out.
  8. Now you know where the goalposts are. You'll get there, you have a good attitude. What did you catch?
  9. Yesterday I had a little time between work in the morning and my nephew's wedding in the afternoon, lots of dinks, one decent brook trout. My crappy camera doesn't do justice the the reddish hue on this guy's belly. I don't usually fish this section of the stream, a very few deep holes. Sulfurs really started popping off just as I had to leave for the wedding.
  10. Chromium on my laptop Opera on my phone I always use Google to search the site, never the site's search function, so not sure how that acts for me.
  11. A feature that comes and goes. Kinda similar to @Jaydub here but usually works on my phone, almost never works on my laptop.

    Bad bear

That made me laugh, Nick. I've had a few encounters, but none real close that ever caused me to be unnerved. We frequently get black bears in our neighborhood in the Spring and Fall, lots of woods around here, and bird feeders. This Spring and last we've had a sow and 3 cubs running around, and one good sized boar. Here he is from a few weeks ago, at my neighbor's bird feeders. Crappy trail cam pics.
  13. I see, that makes sense now. Thanks.
  14. Dumb Bunny might be good. https://youtu.be/KPdA7RFgh8g Looks relatively simple. I think I would finish the head with a dubbing loop of contrasting color and just use a long shank hook. Flagler ties a slightly different version on a fancy hook. https://vimeo.com/137271049
  15. Interesting, that crawdad with the foam body and lip. Hmm. I don't understand how the kinked shank helps with hook sets.
  16. That sounds like fun, Nick. Not sure of the kind we have in the water I was fishing, other than the lazy kind. I think the record for that reservoir is 25# or so, but they have caught them in up to 30# in their occasional surveys. They began stocking in the 50's. A beautiful place, but highly regulated.
  17. Lots of water there, but I have no experience fishing in the area. Have fun, whatever you decide.

    Bad bear

from the article: "Police in Hokkaido, Japan, are searching for any sign of a missing angler who they believe may have been eaten by a bear after a human head was found" What other sign do they need?
  19. Nice jobs with the kids. Hard to beat a Clouser for any type of water. Also: Dragonfly and damselfly nymphs, simple crayfish pattern (weighted in the tail), wooly buggers, Whitlock's Near Nuffs.
