  8. Yup. Clear nail polish, small container of toluene for when it gets too thick, and you'll never buy fly store head cement again. I have lacquer I sometimes use to coat wings before tying them in for certain patterns like hoppers
  9. With chenille thats not as dense, and other materials like ropes of peacock hurl, I stroke the material back while wrapping, like when palmering hackle, to try and get that dense wrap that flytire's bodies always have.
  10. Sad, one of my favorites, still sing his songs when I'm alone in the car.
  11. Agreed! Kudos goes to you for starting this thread, t'was a great idea (and of course thanks to all who have added to it). It adds a lot to the site. One of the things that could make it better is to have those who don't often post, offer up a fly or two. There's no criticism here, unless you ask for it, and any fly tyer worth his salt always likes to see how other tyers interpret/modify a pattern for their own circumstances. Friendly reminder from @flytier a few posts back: 4. Any version of the challenge fly is acceptable 5. Have fun, this is not a competition, just a way to see some different versions of flies
  12. Crazy bastich, God bless him.

From this morning's walk. Best focus I could get without my glasses. Black Quill
  14. Nice. I think that would be a great caddis imitation. @cphubert - nice hat-trick of flies, masterful.
  15. Mine hit the mailbox earlier this week. ETA is Tuesday. Thanks for the update.
  16. 👍- I tried tying one, looked like crap though. I'll need more practice. Looking forward to seeing yours
  17. Fine with me, as I seldom fish the areas mentioned. Tom McGuane must have been fishing there when he said tailwaters are the great theme parks of American fly fishing, which is exactly how that section of the fishery is managed. Not saying that's a bad thing, just not for me.
  18. I followed the same routine when I first started tying. Dining room table, everything broken down and stored when I was done. Got tired of that, so moved to the basement, using a small table in my work area. Same problem as you: not heated in the winter, got too cold. So ended up buying a small desk that fit into the room we use as an office. At first the desk draws held everything I had, and the small plastic bins fit perfectly in the draws. Of course, that didn't last for long. With kids slowly moving out, a little extra space became available in the closet. I got bigger plastic bins and plastic, stacked drawers stored in the closet to keep things organized as the material I needed somehow grew and grew. And here I am.
  19. Little article about my home waters, though I seldom fish the areas they mention. https://www.boston.com/news/the-boston-globe/2023/04/26/swift-river-fly-fishing/
