May Flies From the Vise

Recommended Posts

Maybe you should've joined Mike...Β

This here is a fly I tied today. It's like a Royal Coachman wet fly, but instead of a wing and hackle, it has a Simi-Seal collar, teased out, and a slip of wood duck over that. No tail. Did you know, the RC wet fly first had a slip of wood duck for a tail? The Orvis family then substituted a golden pheasant tippet and passed it off as their own.

Β

Peacock, floss, peacock, simi-seal, wood duck, whip finish. On a scud hook, bead optional.

For a swap. I didn't get to practice these flies as much as I like to due to time. I think it shows.

This is one of my favorite spring flies for Chatham. A white snake.

No, I'm sorry, I did not do the box. It was a gift. I enjoyed it for a while and figured it was time for someone else to enjoy it.

The thread on golden pheasant tippets inspired me to tie this fly.Β  I think of it as thr Royal Coachman's Evil Twin.
