DarrellP 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2019 Seems like some tiers saw something that the rest missed and came up with something that changed fly tying in a major way. For example Clouser(Minnow with lead eyes), Blessing (Wooly Booger), Gapen (Muddler). Who do y'all see as the true pioneers of our sport that impacted you? BobHRAH 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2019 Jack Gartside: Soft Hackle Streamer, Pheasant Hopper, Sparrow. Great innovative patterns with different natural material. I had the good fortune to acquire some of his patterns tied by him personally. Also, took a fly tying class with him at the NJ Symposium. Cool guy. Thanks, Bob H

mikechell 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2019 My influences are: Japan ... for the modern day, foam flip flops. Doug Perry, Macon Brock, and Ray Compton ... for starting the stores we currently call "Dollar Tree". Fly Tyer's Dungeon ... for making materials affordable (to me). dadofmolly 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2019 Although many will disagree with me --- Japan, Tenkara Rods and their style of flies. Over the past few years I see more and more people using Tenkara rods on small streams even though it was supposed to be a passing item.
