  1. He'll yes I would use it. It looks to me it sits low in the film. Nice, really nice emerger. But then again I'm no authority. But I would most definitely give it a try.
  2. Best rod? That is a whole can of worms to open. I have expensive rods and not so expensive. Most any rod you buy today will get you started. The shops in our area say TFO. Unless you are at Orvis. Just don't buy a combo from Wal-Mart. 4 to 6 weight is good place to start.
  3. It also lets you save a few bucks. Hen capes and rooster saddles are less expensive then rooster capes.
  4. I don't know of anyone that has tried this. But it is interesting.
  5. I really like that hen was used for the wing. That is what I do. I think it creates a nicer wing profile.
  6. I know a young man who has a reel for salmon spooled up with amnesia. He out fishes us all.
  7. I setup a Face Book account but I am never on it. The only reason I set it up was because the fishing club has an account. My wife has an account so I hear all I want to hear. I have a couple of cousins who are sisters. One is republican and the other a staunch democrat. The arguments the get into are ridiculous. One time my nephew and his wife was having a tiff. Yep, it all played out on Face Book. Mom finally told them to stop it. We didn't need or want to hear that s--t.
  8. The only flies I tie you listed are sulphers and BWO. For sulphers I use ginger and BWOs I use medium blue dunn.
  9. Welcome, There are a lot of fantastic folks here willing to share their knowledge.
  10. You can, and I have tied stimulators on a straight hook. I think a curved hook gives the fly an interesting profile. Looks more like a hopper.
  11. For you ladies, would be a Charline Horse? Sorry, couldn't help myself.
  12. May be wrong but I thought the split grip was to allow you to touch the blank. Better sensitivity. By the way, nice.
  13. Starling works well for soft hackles. Has been substituted for jungle cock in the past but you can't get the same look.
  14. How often would the borax need changed until the pelt is dry?
  15. Welcome, glad to have ya. Lots of great folks here. Tying is a great way to expand the enjoyment of fly fishing. To save money? LOL
  16. I am fishing the perfect trout streams now for that rod. I promise, I will give a good home.😉
  17. Welcome, don't worry about fishing them. One of gentleman that thought the tying class I took doesn't fly fish. But ties some beautiful flies.
  18. I use a metal kitchen styled chair with a cushioned seat. Got it at Goodwill, $2.
  19. Looking good. I'm not a fan of tenkara flies. Don't hate em, just not a fan. That being said, you have a good base for some conventional soft hackles. Coming along nice. The 2 biggest things for me at least are proportion and thread control. Always working on proportion.
  20. You are off to good start. Anything you tie will be fishable. I just call them cripples. I got started with tying classes. My first fly was a wooly bugger. It is horriable, but it still rides along in the fly box.

No, I do not use one. If they want me they can come after me.
  22. I had aquariums years ago. I also had a Black Ghost Knife. The way it moves was fascinating to me.

When I was taking Drivers ED in high school in Ohio we had a Highway Patrolman speak to the class. I remember him saying when driving in traffic forget about the speed limit. Drive with the flow. If the flow of traffic is traveling 10 mph over the speed limit that is the safe speed. If you are traveling the speed limit you become the hazard.

Regarding people not paying attention; I put a new horn on the motorcycle this spring. I have a lot of people drifting over on me. Even with the loud exhaust its not as bad but still happens. The first car that started to drift over on me with the new horn was worth the cost. When I let the horn rip the driver about crapped his britches. That was fun.
  25. Not going to say one brand over the other. I tie on several different ones. You will find what you prefer.
