  1. I fish the same general area as Steve, I’m about 50 miles closer though. In 2013 I traded in my last pickup and got the cheapest equinox on the dealers lot. It gets around fine, it’s 4 banger and if I set the cruise between 55 to 60 I can get well over 30 mpg. I’m retired and did the side job thing for 11 years, but I’m done with it now. Yes the price of gas will have a effect, I will be picking my days very carefully. Mike.
  2. Life is good, as grandpa myself enjoy! Mike
  3. Size 10 thru 16 standard dry fly hook brown or black 8/0 or 70 denier thread Moose hair tail turkey tail fibers for the body para post brown and grizzly hackle brown superfine dubbing
  4. Working on my Michigan dry fly selection, this is the Borchers parachute, tied in sizes 10-16, covers a lot of bases for our early big brown bugs. Mike.
  5. Dfoster, I have a 7 year old pair of orvis silver Sonics that have held up beyond my expectations, I also bought a pair of the Simms g3 last year that I hope will last for a while. I have had to do minimal patching on my silver Sonics but still love them. I have done a ton of hiking and wading in them and really should have just bought another pair of orvis, but the g3 waders are made in the USA and feel at this time I need to support USA made products. I really don’t have a problem supporting other countries economies except china. Mike.
  6. Very nice, have you had it out in the yard/snow for test drive? mike.
  7. Upnorthtier, I don’t know how old you are but it doesn’t get any easier as you age. I’ve lived in Michigan all my life and have seen all kinds of crazy weather. I’m going on 65 and the cold stuff is really starting to suck. That and the lack of sunshine here really starts to bother me more as I’ve matured. But we’re not going anywhere with grandkids nearby , my folks moved to Arizona, so we can make quick trip out there for some relief. It takes a special person to put up with super long winters, I just don’t know how some folks do it. mike
  8. Very nice DFoster, It looks like your getting off to a good start with this build. I’ve built a few fiberglass fly rods and really enjoyed the process. Keep us posted with your progress. Mike.

Steve, glad to hear you and your mom are doing better, I to live in mid Michigan, and I can’t say enough bad things about the health care system here. I hope your mom continues to improve, and you as well. Mike.
  10. Flytire and SBPatt are at another level, but I really like the wallywing and poopdecks dry fly. Poopdeck what is the material list for your fly? thanks again, Mike.
  11. Very nice upstatetrout, I love the use of few materials to create a beautiful fly. Mike.
  12. DFoster, very nice, and the soft hackles as well. Mike.
  13. To many questions, the rare earth metals for batteries being just one, and how is the electricity produced to charge the vehicle? And now we see fires starting from cars being charged. Nice idea but take some time and get right. Mike.
  14. Yup! Love it, and in my case it’s true.
  15. Excellent Steve, I fish the S.B., and it has been very good, although I went to one of favorite small streams this week because of the heat. Nice workout for a old man, and some nice brookies. I’m not sure the water temp was that good so no pics, and frankly I try and them wet and gone. mike.
  16. Hey, I did that once in my 1977 k5 blazer, it was a blast, but I only did it once. mike.
  17. Thanks Scott, I will be looking up Davies video on this subject. Enjoy the bird watching, and hopefully good weather. Mike.
  18. Scott, I love your partridge spinner! I’m wondering could you to sbs or maybe a tutorial on tying hackle spent wings? It won’t be long here for brown drakes, I was lucky enough to be on the S.B. Ausable a couple of years when there was awesome spinner fall. There were fish rising everywhere, and hundreds of drake spinners on the water and in the air. thanks, Mike. .
  19. Roberts yellow drake, I did well with these last year. This year has been a bit of conundrum, the water levels were very low but the wading was great! But alas we had some big rains, and the never ending wind and cold temps= no bugs. I was frozen Tuesday, hopefully it warm up a bit and water levels will drop some. mike.
  20. Well done Nathan! That is a really awesome fish. I have enjoyed your Hendrickson patterns the last couple of months, thanks for sharing. Mike.
  21. Very nice, l’m going to give some a try. Mike.
  22. I got the hair brush treatment from my mom if I even you lords name in vain. But growing up in flint Michigan you were going to hear it a lot, it was called shop talk working at GM, and was considered protected speech by the uaw. I still hate it, reducing another person, anyone to some sort of vulgar act or hateful word is just not right. We all have differences of opinion, and I know it’s pie in the sky to think that we could have some sort of dialogue and at least try and get along. As a youngster growing up in the 60,s I was taught to be respectful of others, and when I didn’t my mom had no problem using the hair brush on my bottom, that wasn’t a big deal, it was when my dad got home from work, let’s just say it got a lot more serious. Mike.
