Wow, good for you on a 22.  I got a pack of 20's in my tying desk that I don't think have even been opened!

@niveker, thanks. I'd rather tie bigger, but in the tailwaters around here it's the tiny stuff that gets the fish.  Right now for winter fishing it's 22s,24s, and 26s both under the surface and on the surface when we're lucky enough to get either a midge and/or a BWO hatch.

Scott, I like the twisted wire, did you swim these?  how does it effect the action and sink rate?

I have not fished them yet; probably won’t until late March/April when the lakes thaw. I figure once the head soaks up enough water it’ll sink well enough, although it’s not too quickly; that wire doesn’t weigh all  that much.

Regards,
Scott

Following SBpatt's lead on the twisted wire I tried a twisted wire copper John in my favorite color. I like how it turned out but I have to try to get a tighter twist on the wire to get a more uniform lay.

Hook - 12 2X long with 5/32nd gold bead

thread - green gold ultra 70

tail - green biot

body - flo green/dark green ultra wire bs size

thorax - peacock herl

wing case - gold tinsel over brown scud back

legs - India hen back

Attempt number two. I like the results. This time I used size small ultra wire and twisted them together with my brush maker. That's a nice tight twist.

thread - green gold ultra 70

tail - green biot

body - flo green/silvergreen ultra wire size sm

thorax - peacock herl

Excellent work on that. Amazingly smooth body using just thread.
