Attempt number two. I like the results. This time I used size small ultra wire and twisted them together with my brush maker. That's a nice tight twist.

Hook - 12 2X long with 5/32nd gold bead

thread - green gold ultra 70

tail - green biot

body - flo green/silvergreen ultra wire size sm

thorax - peacock herl

wing case - gold tinsel over green scud back

legs - India hen back

Yeah, that’s a nice looking body; the small size wire works well.  I keep my dubbing twister moving at a slow speed and maintain as much tension as I can to get an even twist; looks like you hit it just right.  Per cphubert’s earlier post and dflanagan’s here, call it a Chainmail Copper John.

Regards,
Scott

Where does a fly like this ride in the water column?  Also, is the body of the fly only Estaz or is there anything else mixed with it as it looks really full?

Beautiful work and would likely be a smallie killer on my streams.

Thanks.  Even after the head soaks up some water it’d probably have pretty neutral buoyancy/slow sink; haven’t fished it yet so that’s a guess.  The body is just Estaz; I stroke it back with moist fingers every turn and it stays pretty tight and full.

Scott

@Landon P, impressive!

Pretty @Moshup, love the dark and light contrast.

@Bacchus_2, that looks good!  Is that the one Kelley does in his YT vid?  If so, how closely did you follow his recipe?

I followed it closely but not exactly. I used a clear Antron with a little UV Ice Dub thrown in...I prefer the light veil of Antron rather than the bubble in the Lafontaine pattern, plus Galloup’s pattern is much faster to tie. Give it a whirl, they work great!

Best wishes,

Don
