My first ever Goddard caddis. I butchered the trim like I always do when trimming anything but otherwise I’m okay with it. Please critique away as I want to add this as a point fly this year. Looks like it will float very well.

14 hook

6/0 and 8/0 black thread

bleached elk hair

UV peacock ice dub

ginger hackle

moose main

How was it working with the elk? The body is nicely shaped. I started tying them with caribou because it was a lot easier for me to spin and pack it on smaller hooks like 14s. Charlie Craven’s video is the best I’ve seen - got a lot of great ideas on tying them. Keep at them; takes a while to get the hang of it but like you said they float like corks and are fish catchers.

Scott

I tried one with deer belly hair and found it not as forgiving as the elk. The elk hair was way easier for me I think because you can use less material and still get a full look. I’ll try again tomorrow.
