  1. I have been fishing almost all my life, and despite the twin hurricanes of Sept. 2004, which did tremendous damage to South Hutchinson Island and some damage to the Indian River Lagoon, these "fake" guides doing their illegal stunts and their photophreaks are the "Used Care Salesmen" who will risk anything for a Dollar.
  2. I am a Florida native and I really believe that such shirts as you guys are talking about are promoted and sold by used-car-salespersons who learned to be a "shill" on various used car lots trying to earn enough money for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We are the most gullible nation of shoppers in the entire World!
  3. An answer to your query about what education to pursue! You must have an MBA from a highly rated school, Harvard or something like that. In theory, you will look beyond your "hobby" when you realize what everyone is telling you. By the time you get your MBA, you should have had offers of at least $150,000 per annum and you can use your "hobby" as a "hobby"!
  4. Great Minds on this site. I love seeing the endless ideas you guys keep coming up with! I might be too old to go wading in the Indian River Lagoon but I can still dream of getting better! Thanks to you all!
  5. Great poppers! I agree with the others that I might not fish them if I had something that looked so good!
  6. There are all kinds of places where you might find a rod that would be available to you. Try craigslist, ebay, newspaper ads, Goodwill, etc! Ask for a donation from some club you belong to. You just never know.
  7. Dosix, send me your mailing address (compete) and I will see that you get enough "stuff" to make yourself enough flies that you can share with all your soldiers! My email address is: [email protected]
  8. You can send them to me rather than waste them. I'll give them a shot at local finny critters!
  9. I don't understand why these polls, no matter the age, don't ever seem to include poppers as I have enjoyed throwing green and yellow frog-type poppers into the lily pads and reeds, which was the only reason that I ever built custom rods, (until I retired).
  10. Lots of places over here on the Treasure Coast where you don't need a noisemaker, just drive over to the Island, park, and go wading on the Flats!
  11. Illegal to use gamefish for bait in Florida also. Now that he put it on the internet, the FFWC will read it and probably scoop him up!
  12. Well, goodnight all! Maybe the internet will destroy our society, but I doubt it. If people would follow a few common sense rules about business, most "complaints" would end very quickly. My hats off to David and I wish you would hire some help! Barry the guide, may you live to 194, I will continue to purchase from F.E. and others as I have before and will not expect instant gratification! Great site, Tremendous source of information, Thank you, and again goodnight!
  13. No SMBs down here, just bucketmouths. And all kinds of Saltwater types!
  14. Wow! Those are great catches and great pictures,Saltybum ! I remember many day of such catches before the hurricanes of 2004 rebuilt Hutchinson Island and the Indian River Lagoon. Wish I could be out there again!
  15. I use a lot of materials from FTD also and am experimenting with different sorts of flys. One of these days I'll get out there, wading, "cause I love fresh speckled trout, snook, etc.
  16. Very good thread. Lots of things to learn every day! I love it!
  17. It is not the "sound" that attracts fish, it's what "sound" is. " Vibration "in the water at whatever depth, whatever light condition, it always attracts fish (and sharks)!
  18. In Lefty Kreh's "Saltwater Fly Patterns" there is a different version of who had the fly and who was the guide. All in all, this is interesting reading, no matter the source. As we know, it seems history has many different historians!
  19. Saltwater: Catfish. Freshwater: Catfish, bowfin.
  20. C., thanks for the info on dubbing as I will soon have some material to learn "dubbing" with. Down here I have not had the need to use dubbing, but it's time to learn! :-)
  21. In Florida, the term goggle-eye refers to a type of saltwater bait fish caught and fished in off-shore depths for such as grouper, snapper, etc.
  22. "Local" fly shop? Not for feathers! Depends on how many thousand miles you consider local.
  23. My greatest wish for this young man is to go to/stay in school and learn to use a dictionary to speak and spell proper English instead of what he's using now for English. Improvement could in reality earn a package of various fly tying materials. I done ain't been joshin'!
